Brian
Stahly has been playing volleyball for 20 years and coaching
for 8 years. He met Brebeuf varsity volleyball coach Brian
Murray in the late 1980s and has played on teams with him
off and on since then.
Brian has played on teams in both
the Garden Empire and Michiana USA Volleyball regions,
leading him to the USA Volleyball Adult Open Championships
in Columbus, Ohio, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Brian also
played in the AVA Sand National Championships in Santa
Barbara, California.
While in the U.S. Navy from 1993 to
1997, Brian was stationed in Japan and played on three
teams overseas: the Yokosuka Naval Base team, USS Independence
team and SRF Japanese team, which included both American
and Japanese players.
Brian was the assistant men’s
volleyball coach at Ramapo College in New Jersey from 1998-2000.
He’s been the freshmen volleyball coach at Brebeuf
since the 2001-2002 season. Brian started coaching for
Team Indiana in 2004.An Indianapolis native, Brian graduated
from Montclair State University in New Jersey and is a
former English teacher at North Central High School. Brian
and his wife Sonja live in Carmel with their four year
old son Gavin and twenty-one month old son Tristan.
