Michelle has been active in club volleyball, as a player and coach, since 1993. She started her club career playing for Falls Cities, Kentucky Juniors (KJVA now KIVA) and Derby City volleyball clubs in Southern Indiana. Michelle has coached top teams and assisted our athletes and families through the recruiting process at Team Indiana since 2005.
Over past seasons, Michelle has coached the 18-1 Turtles, 16-1 SWAT, 15-1 Toucans, 17-1 TNT and 17-1 Toxic. Michelle alongside assistant coach, Michelle Mislan, will coach 17 Asics for the upcoming 2010 season.
In 2009, 17-1 Toxic had numerous top ten finishes throughout the year at multiple events: Central Zones, MAVA Open Challenge, Bluegrass Pre-Qualifier, Indy Juniors Classic, the Team Indiana Classic and more.
In 2008, 17-1 TNT highlighted a great season with top ten finishes at the AAU National Championships (5th) and JVDA National Championships (8th). TNT also won the Bluegrass Pre-Qualifier in Louisville.
In 2007, 15-1 Toucans had top ten finishes at the MidEast Qualifier and Colorado Crossroads Qualifier. The Toucans earned their bid to USA Junior Olympics by finishing second at the Hoosier Regional Championships.
In 2006, 16-1 SWAT became the first Team Indiana team to qualify in the Open division at USA Junior Olympics by finishing 2nd at the Northern Lights Qualifier. Rich Coleman, Michelle's husband is also a coach at Team Indiana. She assisted him with the National Championship team, 18-1 Terminators.
In 2005, 18-1 Turtles finished 3rd in the 18 American Division at the USA Junior Olympics, and Michelle assisted Rich with the 17-1 Bulldogs team that finished 2nd in the 17 American Division.
To date, Michelle has coached seven players who have become All Americans.
As the recruiting coordinator for Team Indiana she has currently guided 70 players through the recruiting process. She and Rich also founded and manage the annual JR / SR Showcase. Help with recruiting or skills tapes can be obtained by contacting her at webmaster@teamindianavolleyball.com.
Before coaching at Team Indiana Michelle spent seven years coaching for Circle City volleyball club. In her last season with Circle City (2004) she and Rich led the 16-3 team to USA Junior Olympics, finishing in the top 30 in the 16 American Division.
Coaching at the collegiate level, Michelle was a graduate assistant for IUPUI (2002), where she focused on recruiting correspondence, on-court training, and game film exchange. She also was an assistant coach at Marian College (2003, 2004) where her primary responsibilities included player development, recruiting, and the strength and conditioning program.
A 1998 graduate of New Albany High School in New Albany, Indiana, She was an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection and helped lead New Albany to a sectional championship and regional runner-up finish during her junior season. Michelle received a scholarship to IUPUI, which brought her to Indianapolis. She helped lead the Jaguars to the Mid-Continent Conference championship her junior year, earning Second Team All-Conference and All-Tournament accolades. She served as team co-captain as a senior and was also honored with her third consecutive Academic All-Conference award.
Michelle finished her collegiate career with her name occupying numerous single match and career rankings in the IUPUI record book. She ranks in the top 10 for kills, attempts, hitting percentage, and block assists for a single match, as well as being among the leaders in total and average kills and attempts for a career.
Michelle resides in Fishers with her husband, Rich, and their 11 year old Jack Russell Terrier, Rocky.
