Originally from Bloomington, Larry grew up on the south side and graduated from Southport High School in 1982, where he first got an interest in volleyball. A soccer player and distance runner, Larry then turned toward volleyball coaching as he finished his BS at Ball State because of the strong volleyball presence there. Larry is now in his 25th year of coaching volleyball, over the course of which he has coached over 60 teams at the high school, club, and CYO levels. Larry has been with Team Indiana since it opened, first as 13-1s coach and now in his fourth season as 14-2s coach. He has also been coaching the St. Lawrence Cadet A volleyball team since 1990, and is the head coach of Bishop Chatard, the high school he has been affiliated with since 2001. Larry has coached teams to a freshman county championship, JV City championship, CYO City championship, and varsity county championship in addition to assisting for the 2004 3A State Championship team at Bishop Chatard. His 2004 14-2s team placed 3rd at Junior Olympics, and his 2009 14-2s team at Team Indiana placed 5th at the AAU National Championship. Over the course of his career, Larry has been recognized as the All-Metro Coach of the Year in 1993, the City Coach of the Year in 2009, and received the Monsignor Busald Service Award from CYO in 2005. Larry is a dual credit Psychology and AP World History teacher at Lawrence North High School, where he has been since 1987. Larry is also an Oblate of the Order of St. Benedict, affiliated with Our Lady of Grace monastery in Beech Grove. When not in the gym, Larry enjoys playing adult recreation league hockey in Carmel.
