- What is Team Indiana Volleyball?
Team Indiana is a volleyball club that is dedicated to the skill development of young female athletes ranging in ages from 18u-11u. We host our club season from January through the end of May or the end of June (depending on team placement). We also offer summer camps and fall clinics along with private lessons year round.
- What is the mission of Team Indiana Volleyball Club?
“Team Indiana is dedicated to the cultivation of developmental skills in young players and providing opportunities for girls to grow as individuals as well as elite volleyball players.”
- Who are the coaches at Team Indiana?
Team Indiana has one of the most experienced coaching staffs in the state of Indiana. We recruit, hire, train and retain the most dedicated coaches available. We offer training to all of our coaches year-round. The most important aspect of our staff is that all of our Team Indiana coaches make a commitment to serve the mission of our organization. Our 2010 coaching line up is listed on our coaches page of the website. There may be some changes with the coaching staff based on the IHSAA rules.
- What is JVA?
JVA is a chapter of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). With a membership of over 4,900 and counting, the AVCA provides a professional network for those individual and companies dedicated to enhancing and developing the sport of volleyball. "The mission of the Junior Volleyball Association is to represent, communicate and lobby for the development, growth and marketing of all levels of Youth and Junior Volleyball. It will be an inclusive organization that allows all clubs a voice and a vote in helping shape a positive future for the sport."
- Why does Team Indiana chose to participate in JVA and not USAV?
- Here are a few of the main reasons why Team Indiana is exclusively JVA:
- Cost effective – parents will save nearly $2,000 a year by eliminating participation in USAV and USAV sanctioned events.
- The club season will be finished in the middle of June, three weeks earlier than USAV.
- Less travel – teams will not have to travel across the country to participate in qualifiers. Most tournaments are held regionally (Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, etc.).
- The clubs that are already involved in JVA are some of the most successful and dominating clubs across the country. Partnering with such elite clubs allows us to play some of the best competition at each tournament.

- What do these club dues cover?
Club dues cover practice and court time, insurance coverage, JVA membership, Asics player pack and coaching. It does not pay for playing time. Of course, everyone wants to play as much as possible in competitive matches, but in terms of player development, time spent in practice is more valuable than match time.
- What is not included in the club dues?
Tournament fees (divided by all players on the team), coaches travel (divided by all players on the team), team travel, AAU membership, team gear and individual travel will be additional costs that you will see on your installments. These things will be in detail on your billing so that you know exactly where your money is going.
- How do we pay our dues?
Installments will be emailed out and posted on our web site under the Team Indiana login section. You can either pay your bill online with a credit card. You may also mail in a check or cash, or you can drop it in our payment box in the Team Indiana Lobby. The club installments can be paid up front with a 5% discount, but tournament fees and travel expenses will still be billed on each installment.
- When are tryouts for the 2009 club season?
Sunday, November 1st will be the first date for the 12s/13s/14s and all other age groups will begin on Sunday, November 8th. The complete tryout schedule is posted online with exact dates and times for each age group.
- What are tryouts like?
Tryouts will consist of physical testing, skill testing and game situations. Each age division tryout will be different based on needs and number of athletes trying out.
- Are parents allowed to watch the tryout process?
Absolutely! Parents are welcomed to attend any and all tryout sessions. We do ask that you make every effort to not distract the participants or our coaching staff. Please note that at all times only tryout participants and our coaching staff are allowed on the courts.
- Can a player who did not play at Team Indiana in the 2009 club season have a fair shot at making a top team?
Yes! Each girl has an equal opportunity to make a top team. While we like to keep core groups together, we are always looking to improve the overall talent. Bottom line…if your daughter deserves to make a top team, she will.
- What is the age break down for the 2010 club season?
12 and under – 9.1.97 and later

18 and under – 9.1.91 – 8.31.92
- Does my daughter have to play in the age division that she falls under?
We strongly recommend that each athlete plays in there age group until their 17s year. The last few years we have allowed 17 year olds to play up in 18s. Like all situations, special circumstances will arise and the office will be happy to discuss those circumstances further.
- How many teams will Team Indiana have per age division?
17s/18s – 4 teams; 16s – 4 teams; 15s – 5 teams; 14s – 5 teams; 13s – 4 teams; 11s/12s – 4 teams
These numbers are not definite, but they are a close ballpark. The number of teams per age division could change based on the demographics of those trying out.
- Will my daughter make a team if she participates in the tryouts?
Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate every athlete that tries out for Team Indiana. We only have the ability to host 26 teams. In order to ensure that all of our teams have a high quality product, we will not offer a product that is not to the standard of Team Indiana. We do not feel that putting teams together to just fill spots is a positive experience for the player, parents or the club.
- What is the Team IN Training program?
Team IN Training is a new build up program to our club. Team IN Training will be a way for younger athletes (12s/11s/10s) to be a part of Team Indiana with a less intense practice and playing schedule but yet still be involved with the program. The athletes will go through the normal tryout process and will have access to all Team Indiana benefits. Please look on our website for more information as it becomes available.
- How much is it to tryout at Team Indiana?
$300 is due at the time of tryouts. Once you are placed on a team, the deposit will go towards your overall club dues.
- What if my daughter is chosen for a team, but we choose not to play for Team Indiana?
If your daughter is chosen for a team, you will forfeit your $300 if you decide not to play for Team Indiana. If you withdraw after January 4, 2010, you will be responsible for all club dues and team costs for the 2010 club season.
- What if we withdraw our daughter before teams are selected?
If you chose to withdraw from tryouts, you will receive $150 back from your initial $300.
- Does Team Indiana offer anything for younger kids?
Team Indiana will be offering a new program this December called “Rugrats.” It will be geared towards boys and girls from three to eight years old. The program is being developed in order for these young kids to learn about movement, understanding the volleyball and simple motor skills that are used in the sport. Please look for more details and registration on our website this fall.
- Does Team Indiana offer private lessons?
Yes…Team Indiana does offer private and semi-private lessons throughout the year. If you are interested, please fill out the online inquiry. Please note that your current club coach is not allowed to give anyone lessons on his/her team during the season.
- How much travel is involved with Team Indiana Volleyball Club?
The 1s and 2s teams will travel to a few tournaments that our out of state (Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky and Michigan). Some teams may also travel to Orlando, FL for the AAU Nationals in June. All other teams may travel to one out of town tournament for the club season. Team schedules will be handed out during tryouts, so you will be aware of the travel before being placed on a team.
Do all teams travel?
Our 1s and 2s teams travel to at least 3-4 out of town tournaments while most other teams will only go to one or two.
How many players will be on each team?
We like to keep 10 players per team on average. However, on our 17s and 18s, we will keep 12 players per team. Our 12 and under and 13 and under teams may also experience more than 10 players per team.
- How often are practices?
All teams will practice three times per week (our 14-1s and 14-2s will practice four times per week). Our 1s and 2s team from 14 and up practice 8 hours a week, all other teams practice 6 hours. In general, two of these practices will take place on weeknights and will usually not begin earlier than 4:30 p.m. and will not run later than 10:00 p.m. Every effort will be made to schedule practices for our younger age groups early in the evening. Weekend practices may be on Saturdays or Sundays. However, Sunday practices will not begin before 12:00 noon to accommodate family and/or church commitments.
- Where are practices held?
All practices will be held in our state-of-the-art facility at 2570 North Shadeland Avenue. We do not use any other sites for practices.
- How often do teams play in tournaments?
It is our belief that there are positive benefits to our athletes’ participation in tournaments. Dependent upon the age and competitive level of each team, the number of tournaments in which we participate will vary from team to team. On average our teams will play anywhere from 8 – 12 tournaments in a club season. Each coach will discuss each team’s goals with respect to the season and participation in tournaments further at a team meeting held by the head coach. Teams will average about two tournaments per month.
- When do we get tournament information (when and where they play)?
Most tournament schedules are not posted until two or three days prior to the event. We will have links on the team page so that you can check to see when schedules are posted. Team Indiana has no control on the time frame in which tournaments are posted.
- How long is the club season?
Tryouts are held in November, and we offer skill session nights in December. Team practices will begin the week of January 4th. Our 1s and 2s teams will go until the end of June, and all of our regional teams will finish at the end of May.
- Is playing time guaranteed?
Playing time is not guaranteed for anyone. Playing time is earned during practices and is left to the discretion of the coach. Club dues only cover practice times and not playing time. Of course, everyone wants to play as much as possible in competitive matches, but in terms of player development, time spent in practice is more valuable than match time.
- Can the multi-sport athlete play for Team Indiana?
Yes, many of our student-athletes participate in more than one sport, especially in our younger age groups. Naturally, as the teams advance to a higher level of competition, we see less of the multi-sport athlete. There is a section on the tryout registration where we ask our athletes if they intend to participate in additional sports or activities that may conflict with Team Indiana. The most important thing that a multi-sport athlete has to do is communicate with her coach regarding her other sport. Most coaches are willing to work around the athletes schedule if they are up front about conflicts.
- Does Team Indiana help with the college recruiting process?
Another benefit that Team Indiana is proud to provide is a dedicated Recruiting Coordinator. Michelle Coleman has been working hard and assisting Team Indiana athletes pursue their dreams of playing at the collegiate level. Team Indiana takes pride in providing one source for our athletes, our families and college coaches throughout the recruiting process. To date, every athlete that has wanted to play in college has been provided the opportunity to do so - a 100% success rate!!
- Can I work off or fundraise my fees?
We allow families to work in the pro shop or concession stand to help pay for their club dues. Those dates that are available for athletes and parents to work will be sent out to all who sign up at the beginning of the year.
We will also be producing our second annual view book to showcase all of our 2010 teams and athletes. This book will be something you can hold on to for years to come to remember your teammates, coaches, and accomplishments from the 2010 season at Team Indiana. You can sell ad space in the view book and apply it to your club dues or tournament costs for the 2010 season. 40 1/8 page ad spaces are available and will be sold first come first serve.
- Are there any IHSAA rules that will affect us for Team Indiana?
- No staff members from a particular high school may coach roster players from that high school while school is in session. High school staff may coach players from other schools at any time, and their own players after the school year has ended.
- No more than three players from one high school may play for a single team.
- The above rule (number 2) does not apply to seniors, to grade school students or to students who are not on the school’s team.
- Athletes may play an outside sport at the same time as they play another sport for their high school. (You may play Team Indiana Volleyball and school basketball at the same time.)
- You may not play Team Indiana Volleyball and high school volleyball at the same time.
- Will you have any Open Houses or Information Nights?
We are currently working on our Open House schedule and Information Night dates. All dates and times will be posted online as they become available. We do suggest that anyone who is new to club volleyball or Team Indiana that you attend one of these so that you can get all of your questions answered prior to tryouts.
