Indiana University volleyball has started their fall 2018 season with a lot of hype and excitement, no doubt a function of new head coach Steve Aird’s presence. The fall 2018 season at Team Indiana has also been full of hype and excitement, ramping of for the 2018/2019 club season as well as a very exciting college commitment from a defensive specialist from our AAU Nationals 5th place Elite 15.1 team, Carly Mills! Carly recently verbally committed to play at Indiana University. Congratulations Carly!
“I visited as many schools as I could and then selected the one that I thought would push me to be the best athlete and student,” said Mills on her commitment process. “I feel like Indiana university feels like home – I am honored and proud to be a Hoosier!”
With the help of Team Indiana (TI) and its recruiting program, Mills was able to decide on IU with confidence, feeling supported and positive the whole way.
“TI (and recruiting coordinator Michelle Coleman) helped me understand the process of getting recruited and communicating with coaches, then stayed very involved in the process of reaching out and talking to coaches and provided a lot of great advice and insight,” explained Mills. The recruitment process can look very intimidating if you don’t know where to start and where to go.
“Be patient with the process and reach out to as many schools as you can because you never know when one is going to be best for you,” said Mills when asked if there were any advice she’d give others. Many players want that instant gratification of committing to a school, but frequently it takes months, sometimes years, and a lot of conversation and hard work.
When asked what really helped her feel prepared to compete at the college level, Mills explained that her club season last year really raised the level of play for her and her teammates, and it all showed as she helped carry the team to the quarterfinals at Nationals in Florida.
We know the TI family is excited to watch Carly play in college in a few years and continue to have her in the gym! Congratulations, Carly!
